Age is Just A Number

A few months ago I posted a 'quote' on Instagram and it really got me thinking over the last few months.

'Getting your first degree after 21 is still an achievement. Being married after 30 is still beautiful, Starting a family after 35 is still possible. Buying a house after 40 is still a boss move. Don't let people rush you with their timelines!'

How much do we focus on what we think we should be doing and at what others are doing, instead of focusing on what we are doing right now.

Life isn't about doing what others are doing or doing what people think you should be doing. There is NO rule book! So what if you don't get promotion at work, it doesn't matter if your not married by 30 marriage or you don't have kids by 35. You can still do or that.... just when you want to! The huge house and fancy cars is not what life is all about. There is NO rush! You really don’t have to set yourself up to go at it at 100 mph. You do things when YOUR ready... at your own speed and in your own time. But the negative people to one side because everyone’s path in life is different!

I'm 34 and live in a rented house and its just myself, Maya and the rabbit! I lived at home with my Mum & Dad until I was 32 and moved out 2 months before having Maya. Most people I know my age are either married (or even divorced), own their own home and have a couple of kids... But I wouldn't change it for the world! Why does it matter that I haven't been to uni, don't own my own house or that I had my first child at 32!?

This is my life and this is the path I'm meant to take.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good plan, I'm all for planning but lets face it 9 times out of 10 does a ‘plan’ ever go to plan! We all grow up in different ways, take different paths and life just happens.

But what fun would it be if we didn't enjoy it along the way!

  1. Totally right! I always tried to do everything to plan (as in I wanted to be married at 25 etc) and it never works! And in the end I’ve had 2 of my three kids after 30 got married when I was 35 and still not bought a house! We’ll get there in the end and just enjoy the scenic route! I think the most important thing is to try to enjoy the ride and think about it as a marathon not a sprint! :)
